Appearance: Filipino, long black hair, 5'6", 120 lbs.

Background: A love child from Charleston, SC, she was sent to NYC after the rich father decided to take financial responsibility for Joya and James (twin brother). Her father needed them far away from his life, so sent them to a small boarding school for musicians. They were not welcome (because they were Asian), so they left. James "Muse" and Joya "Ash" both play violin, viola, cello, piano and classical guitar. Ash is teaching herself flute. They're both rather docile, just don't mess with their instruments.

Relationships: Brother Muse is her most trusted confidant. His best friend, Mess, has his eye on Ash. Her guardian angel is Midnight, a Midtown newsie. She's also friends with Imp and Breathless. She can almost always get a good laugh from Sketch or Cole (from Midtown), fears Liberty, and respects Ruby, Fingers, Flash, and Blue. And is fascinated by Pistol Conroy, and finds great joy in one Hobo Rosenthal (for some unknown reason, even to her). Is friends with a lot of the Greenwich newsies. Her closest thing to family, outside of the newsies, is the Giacoma family (friends from the music conservatory), restaurant owners from SoHo.

Other notes: Ash's mother was a cook on her father's plantation, and Ash has many culinary skills as a result. She has a love-fear relationship with Mess, whose short temper gets her in trouble a lot (she's very non-confrontational and quiet). She tends to sit on the floor on the inside of the bunkroom, near Blue and Flash's bunk. *Hates* cold weather and loves kids. Spends a little too much time in Greenwich Village. Ash can bet or gamble and win, but she never does it for money. She never smokes nor drinks, either.
