Harlow MAG
Hunstanton Run
Sunday 9th June

The run left the G.P.C.A. car park just after 9am – Destination Hunstanton, Norfolk.
The route we took was via the country lanes. Taking in a few fag breaks and a pub lunch.
The weather was overcast but dry for the journey, allowing for some good riding. 9 of us on 7 bikes left Harlow. We used the marker system, whereby when we get to a junction, 1 person stays there to show the others which way to go, until the back marker has passed, and then they re-join the run. This system worked pretty well until a turning was missed and we had to do a U-turn.
The U-turn nearly turned into a disaster, when (no names will be mentioned here!) one rider missed what was going on and very nearly took out 2 other bikes, actually making contact with them both although no bikes went down and no one was hurt (except maybe a bit of pride). This threw the marker system into a bit of chaos because no one knew who had gone through and who hadn’t. Resulting in two riders missing the turning completely, this meant that we now had two riders lost. We eventually regrouped, minus 1, who decided enough was enough and turned for home – 10 miles from Hunstanton.
We reached Hunstanton at 3pm. In time for an ice cream, and the rain to start.
We spent about 1½ hours there before starting the journey home.

This time, using the main roads across to Kings Lynn and down the A10. Heavy rain all the way, just to make the journey that bit more enjoyable – NOT. Making a brief stop at the lavender gardens just outside Hunstanton.
On the A10, we hit another hitch – one of the bikes broke down (with electrical problems). From there, we split to make our own way home, leaving the one to wait for break down recovery.
Finally arriving home between 8 and 9.30pm.

All in all it was a good run, putting the mishaps aside. Though some of the riders thought it was a bit long – not in distance but time spent out.
