Fitness Evaluation

Who Can Benefit From A Fitness Evaluation?

If you have thought about starting a fitness program but are not sure how to begin and what exercises are best for you or if you exercise regularly and want to measure your progress, then a fitness evaluation will  assess your present level of fitness accurately and quickly.

What Happens In A Fitness Evaluation?

In the first half of an evaluation, measurements of body composition, aerobic fitness, and musculoskeletal fitness are taken and these are used in the second half to council the participant on effective ways to work on the areas that need improvement. A full evaluation lasts two hours.

Body composition measurements include height, weight, body mass index, waist girth, skin fold measurements, and fat percent from bioelectrical impedance analysis and tables.

Aerobic capacity is measured by a modified step test (mCAFT) and an aerobic fitness score is calculated and compared to tables normalized to Canadian populations. Recovery rate of pulse and blood pressure is also determined.

Musculoskeletal fitness tests strength, endurance, leg power production and back fitness through trunk flexion, pushups, partial curl ups and a vertical jump test.

The counselling session uses these measurements as a basis of discussion for an individualized program for health enhancement. Through a discussion of healthy lifestyle practices, activity interests and motivation, we set appropriate fitness goals that are designed to fit into your life style. Where appropriate, nutritional and wellness counselling and relapse prevention are discussed.

Fitness Evaluation: $60.00 - TWO HOURS

Postural Assessment

Injuries and pain do not only occur because of sudden trauma. Poor posture and muscle imbalances develop over years and can result in low back, neck and joint pain.
This is because our bodies will often follow the path of least resistance and call upon stronger muscles to perform movements instead of weaker muscles that should be the prime movers. As a result, the strong muscles become shorter and stronger while the weak muscles become looser and weaker. This can result in bones being pulled out of alignment which in turn result in pain and limits to movement. Posture may be realigned with corrective exercises, stretches and proper movement patterns.

A postural assessment involves analyzing static and moving posture and leg and hip muscle imbalances for such common problems as:

  • rounded back
  • slouching shoulders
  • elevated hips and shoulders
  • twisted pelvis and low back
  • head jutting forward

An exercise program that corrects your faulty movement patterns and posture is demonstrated and you are given worksheets of well illustrated and explained exercises and stretches.

Postural Assessment: $60.00 - TWO HOURS
