Widodo AS: Jemaah Islamiyah Does Not Formally Exist
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Widodo AS, Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Political,
Legal and Security Affairs, has said that basically, the Indonesian government has
never acknowledged the existence of the Jemaah Islamiyah organization.
"As a formal organization, Jemaah Islamiyah has never existed," stated Widodo
before a limited cabinet meeting to discuss compensation for the fuel price increases
at the presidential office on Monday (10/10).
However, Widodo said, acts of terrorism taking place in Indonesia were real.
Indonesia has been the target and victim of the acts of terrorisn.
"Therefore, the government has conducted serious efforts to uncover these acts of
terrorism," Widodo stated.
He added that the measures taken by the government included efforts to unravel
terrorist networks.
"We shall apply legal measures to the maximum against all bombing perpetrators
from any organization," stated Widodo.
Vice President Jusuf Kalla had earlier stated that Jemaah Islamiyah organization has
never existed in Indonesia.
"So, how can we dissolve this organization?" stated Kalla. (Dimas Adityo-Tempo
