Master Caramak's Skills

  1. Do you do MOO-code?
Yes. A lot. I'm familiar with most of the code currently in use for the Harpercraft...wrote a significant portion of it. I also work as a wizard on VP. I don't know if my code is the most readable, but I make it function.
  2. How much patience do you have with helping newbies?
Some. Even if they're annoying me, I'll stay perfectly polite and answer questions. When the newbie in question seems to be getting something out of the answers, my tolerance goes up a huge amount. Unless it's something obscure or something that wants a detailed, technical answer, I'll usually leave it to others to answer general questions, though. (If I'm the only person qualified to answer, then naturally I will.)
  3. Do you teach lessons? What kinds?
I haven't taught many /recently/, but I can teach every so often. Lessons I have or might consider teaching: law, music theory, performance on any number of instruments ICly or OOCly or in groups, composition...less comfortably, I might teach history, archives, philosophy. And I have a knack for faking my way through subjects I half-know.
  4. Are you willing to write up tips and guidelines on various subjects?
Yes. I think I do this well, especially when I have a focus. I think I do a good job of staying abreast of current MOO, Craft and Council policies and technology, so I think my information, at the time when I write, is usually accurate, and I think I can usually express myself in a clear and understandable manner. If you want something brief, don't ask me :P but I think I write a very solid help file.
  5. Are you willing and able to write diplomatic mail?
Again, yes. If I'm not truly angry (which I don't think happens very often) I think I do a very good job of seeing both sides of a situation, acknowledging that both sides exist, and presenting the logic of respecting the side which the Council thinks needs presenting. Even when I am angry, I think I restrict myself to logical arguments...they just become heated logical arguments as opposed to cool ones.
  6. What instruments do you play, OOCly?
Trombone is my major instrument. I'm also well aquainted with the rest of the brass family, although I wouldn't sound good on anything besides trombone and perhaps euphonium/baritone. I play a bit of piano and know basic technical information for stringed instruments (especially bass) and percussion. Woodwinds require a bit of sleight of hand on my part to fake my way through.
  7. Do you have any experience with music theory?
Yes, but be warned: it's jazz theory. Some of my approaches and notations will seem odd or out and out wrong to classical musicians. It's all very functional, though, I promise. ;)
  8. Are you willing to help with grammatical editing?
Yes, and I think I'm good at it. It takes me a while to do a full critique, but I'm quite willing to go through line by line and point out every change I think needs to be made to a piece of writing. (Well, within reasonable limits. Don't ask me to proofread a novel, please? Helpfiles, songs and the like are fine.)
  9. Are you willing to help with the creation of descs?
Yes, but I think I'm a very dry and technical writer in my descs. If you want that, I can write up some spammy descs that use the English language well, and perhaps even make some nice images.
  10. What Pern resources do you have? (DLG, Atlas, etc)
Dragon Lovers' Guide ed. 1, People of Pern, and a lot of the books...I /think/ all of them except the short story "Runner of Pern" in _Legends_, an anthology with lots of short stories...but I may or may not be able to /find/ any given book at any given moment.
  11. Do you have a place to post Harper-related information or logs?
Technically, but I'm somewhat out of commission for the moment. I think our new website should help alleviate the need for that.
  12. What areas is your character, ICly, skilled in? How much can you OOCly contribute to these areas?
Mak's a performer, first and foremost. Trumpet, gitar and flute are his main instruments of choice, probably in that order. Given three days to brush up his skills, he can reasonably expect to give a performance on just about any instrument. (Some will be better than others, but.) He also has a fairly good intuitive feel for law and politics, although he doesn't like archives quite as much. For myself, I think I can certainly contribute as a performer...occasionally with lessons. I can back up my IC knowledge with RL knowledge of the instruments I listed above, and have experience dealing with law and politics on Pern dating back a good few years now.
  13. Do you have any other OOC skills that may be useful to people seeking help?
Um...I juggle, I swim, I do Aikido? I think this questionaire covers most of the areas in which I might provide help fairly well. I have great skill in BSing when I don't know what I'm doing but /some/ answer or action is needed.
