Master Teraille's Skills

  1. Do you do MOO-code?
I do indeed. At this point, I'm competent to maintain the code in the Hall, though I may beg help from others occasionally. I also occasionally create new, functional verbs, though I'm not able to build things of disgusting complexity. I consider myself a solid coder, if not capable of building a MOO. ;) I'm also a lot better at coding than I am with /teaching/ code; my knowledge base is spotty, so I'm not great at explaining fundamentals.
  2. How much patience do you have with helping newbies?
A fair amount. I get frustrated, but I like to think I don't show it as much as some. I tend to be good at answering questions in an easy to understand way, building from fundamental concepts.
  3. Do you teach lessons? What kinds?
I do indeed, in spurts. I tend to have periods ranging from a day or two to three or four weeks in which I'll teach a lot of lessons, right on top of each other, sometimes two or three in a single day. Then I go on lesson-hiatus for a while. I teach on a variety of subjects, most often IC, but with a few OOC lessons when they're needed. I'm most prone to teach on eclectic subjects; interpretive dance is more likely from me than basic gitar.
  4. Are you willing to write up tips and guidelines on various subjects?
Willing, yes. Eager, no. I have done it before, and think of myself as fairly competent at it, but I don't enjoy it. I will do it if it's absolutely needed, but I'd rather delegate it to someone better than I.
  5. Are you willing and able to write diplomatic mail?
This I /am/ willing and eager to do. ;) I like to think of myself as good at it, though I've been warned my mails can seem very distant when I /am/ emotionally involved with the subject at hand. Something in the effort towards impartiality, I suppose.
  6. What instruments do you play, OOCly?
Well? Not very many. I'm a dabbler. I can make recognizable sound on guitar, harp, piano, harmonica, and recorder. I understand the principles for making sound on most instruments.
  7. Do you have any experience with music theory?
Some, yes. I'm learning more. ;) My knowledge, however, is primarily self-taught... and as a vocalist. Which means my foundations are spotty at best, which means I'm probably /not/ the person to approach for help.
  8. Are you willing to help with grammatical editing?
Sure! I like grammatical editing, oddly enough. I may be a bit slow at times, but I'm fairly good at catching things. And, depending on the circumstances, I'm willing to either simply correct or to point out the problem spots and let the original writer fix them himself.
  9. Are you willing to help with the creation of descs?
Again, I am willing, though I would rather not. If no one else is available to do it, I'll write up a desc. However, I prefer to avoid desc-writing as much as possible.
  10. What Pern resources do you have? (DLG, Atlas, etc)
Most of the books? I don't have any real reference materials.
  11. Do you have a place to post Harper-related information or logs?
Yes. I have, in fact, an entire page full of logs and lesson outlines and stuff, at http://members.xoom.com/Teraille/logs.html. I'm also willing to take a log and get it into the correct template form for posting on the Harper page, if people just don't get HTML.
  12. What areas is your character, ICly, skilled in? How much can you OOCly contribute to these areas?
Teraille is an archives/law specialist. I think I have a fairly solid understanding of Pernese law, as we interpret it, and I'm fairly good at getting people to think about the issues. As far as archives goes, I'm better at talking about reserach and research papers than I am about the science of archiving, though I'm capable of that, with a little bit of advance research and some degree of winging it. ICly, Teraille's music is primarily voice, though she also plays flute well. She can teach basic lessons in most instruments, but doesn't go much beyond that... And she likes dabbling. She'll play a little harp, a little dulcimer, a little gitar... My OOC contribution with those instruments I don't play is really limited to posing them decently. I know how to hold them, and the general info of how to take care of them, but not much more than that. She does theater, and in that area I'm fairly competent.
  13. Do you have any other OOC skills that may be useful to people seeking help?
I'm good at finding information, on the MOO or off. If there's something you need to know, I'm a good one to turn to to find it. I'm big into writing, both fiction and non-fiction, and like to think of myself as fairly good at it. I have some RL tutoring/TAing experience, which translates fairly well into MOO teaching. I'm fairly good at organizing events/contests, and enjoy doing it. I can't think of anything else at the moment...
