Updates - Fall/Winter 2002

The Display Room:  Is currently being assembled for displays of photographs, insignia, written material, models of aircrafts, and uniforms.  The insignias displayed are from the regular and reserve Navy, Coast Guard, Air National Guard, Air Force and Marine Squadrons Units that operated from Floyd Bennett throughout the years.  The displays will be divided into World War II, Korean War, Vietnam and Cold war periods.  Floyd Bennett Field has played a major role in these conflicts.
The Grumman Goose :   Plans are being made to re-paint the Grumman Goose to the New York City Police Department paint scheme and graphics in honor of the Police Departments role at Floyd Bennett Field.   The New York City Police Department has their aviation unit based at Floyd Bennett Field.
The PT-26 : All repairs on the PT-26 have been completed.  The engine was repaired and recently started up.  The plane is in the process of being painted the U.S. Army Air Corps. colors (blue and yellow).  It is expected that the PT-26 will be completed within the next few months.
The A-4 : The restoration of the A-4 has been completed.  The cockpit canopy is currently in the process of being painted to cover the sun damage.  The A-4 was displayed at a radio controlled model airplane "jet rally".  There was a large crowd viewing the proceedings and the A-4 was the hit of the show.
On September 13th, 2002, The A-4 aircraft celebrated it's 50th birthday in U.S. Naval Aviation history.
The P2V Neptune : The plane has been primed with Zinc Chromate and painted.  The Hamilton Standard Decals have been placed on the props.  The observation deck seat is currently being re-padded.   The interior of the plane is in the process of being restored (pilots instrument panel).  Also, work is being done to remove the rust from the main struts and wheel locks.  The Jet Pod Latch has been cleaned, painted and replaced.
The PBY-5A : The elevators on the tail were removed, stripped of old fabric, and cleaned.  All repairs on the vertica and horizontal section are complete. All paint was removed and the plane is getting a good cleaning. The wings are still being worked on ( big job ).
Ground Support Equipment: The mechanics have done a great job in restoring a 1946 Dodge 3/4 ton ambulance. The vehicle was located in Sandy Hook, NJ and was just a mess . It was rusted and full of holes. The HARP members had the vision and the skill to complete this task and now it looks like it just rolled off the assembly line. GREAT JOB GUYS!
The Machine Shop : Within the last few weeks the H.A.R.P. organization received a vertical milling machine that was given to us by a company that was going out of business.
