The Furze surname means:"Dweller by the Furze-covered land..Old English,  Fyrs."
The Furze surname history :
The name Furze can be traced back to the middle ages in Southern England, when people first began to use surnames.  Its variations are Furse, Furze, Furzer, Furzeland, Furzeman etc..
The earliest  known record of the name is 1168  for one  John de la Fursa , in the pipe-rolls,  which reflects the French language influence of the period. The "Pipe -rolls"   were lists of names [ or rolls] compiled for taxation and for this  everyone had to adopt a surname. There was also one John atte Furze in Surrey, Sussex  on the rolls.
