FROM CITYSEARCH - AUGIE MARCH PROFILE
Augie March fans are known to have a gentle but intense relationship
with the band. They studiously follow their progress, religiously
attend gigs and watch their performances in admiration, silently
mouthing the words. Listen to Augie March's mini album Waltz and
it's easy to understand why the band attract a quieter, more relaxed and
devoted audience. On the first single from it, 'Asleep In Perfection',
the sound gently rocks and is enhanced by the subtle but arresting voice
of Glenn Richards.
Originally from Shepparton, the four members of the band
got together in Melbourne in 1996 and after a swag of local gigs with big
name acts, the band were signed to the prestigious Ra Records. In a short
space of time the group recorded their debut EP, Thanks For The Memes,
with producer Victor Van Vugt, who's renowned for his work with Nick Cave
and Beth Orton, amongst others. It was a gentle, at times difficult recording,
but one that indicated the band's future potential. This latest recording
Waltz was created in October 1998 with the help of popster Richard
Pleasance. The accessible nature of the first track, 'Asleep In Perfection',
has seen the band added to radio playlists for the first time, ensuring
more and more people become aware of the beautiful sounds of Augie
March.
