Bike/Walk over the Hackensack River? Why Not?
by Steve Lanset, 12/20/98

As is well-known by many cyclists and pedestrians from Hudson County and elsewhere, there is no bicycle or pedestrian pathway across any of the Hackensack River bridges separating most of Hudson County from the rest of New Jersey. The bridges are currently reserved for motor vehicles and rail. It is quite dangerous for any cyclist or pedestrian to navigate the bridges unshielded by tons of steel. If New Jersey truly wishes to improve its environment, it needs to facilitate non-motorized means of transportation.

Write to James Weinstein, Commissioner of Transportation, to ask that NJDOT study and implement bicycle/pedestrian access across at least one of the Hackacksack River bridges. His address is:

Mr. James Weinstein
