Dan Horegan of Water, McPherson, McNeil is the attorney for the 55LotDev developers of the "luxury housing" off of Johnston Avenue. They got the city easement in 1999. Dan faxed over the description of the repair & refurbishing to the walkway from Jersey Avenue to Liberty State Park... The second reading, on the new ordinance 01-119, & vote is on Wednesday 10/24... It'll be discussed at the caucus meeting tonight which will be televised tommorrow night on Channel 1.
FYI.....In a conversation I had with Dan Horegan on 10/18, he stated that Carl Nordstrom, NJ Div of Parks & Forestry, had the authority to get all the junk/ boat repair stuff that is encroaching on the footbridge/ walkway removed. It was written into the lease with the marina repair people… I think we all need to hold him to it...
The new walkway will have a new 6' high galvanized link fencing, 3 lights, new wolmanized 2" by 6" wood planking as the new decking, new railings, and they'll clear the brush.... They also have to adjust the grade & lay down more granular materials in the cul-de-sac on the JA side.... There will be new asphalt paving for the LSP path side. The odor, that's another issue.. Maybe clearing the garbage will minimize it...
The extended deadline for 55LotDev to complete the new roadway that will now connect to the intersection of Audrey Zapp & Phillips Drive & refurbished footbridge is 12/31/2002. Otherwise, they loose their city granted easement...
I'd say we're all on board & everyone knows what we want.... Let's see if they deliver.... Horegan mentioned & I also heard from other sources that the 2 year delay was with Schundler insisting that they build the road to the walkway & connect it to Jersey Avenue!!!.... It was always his intent... Finally this past spring, Horegan called a meeting with the City- Niessen & Monahan, 55Lotdev developers and the federal Corp of Engineers. The Corp point blank stated that they would never approve the roadway & would never give the permits! Schundler pushed to the bitter end...
Let's hope Schundler doesn't get elected Gov, otherwise who knows???
