I Want To Come Over
Sung by Melissa Etheridge

I know you're home
You left your light on
You know I'm here
The night is thin
I know you're alone
I watched the car leave
Your lover is gone
Let me in

Open your back door
I just need to touch you once more
Ohhhhh
I wanna come over
To hell with the consequence
You told me you loved me
That's all I believe
I wanna come over
It's a need I can't explain
To see you again
I wanna come over

I know your friend
You told her about me
She filled you with fear
Some kind of sin
How can you turn
Denying the fire
Lover I burn
Let me in

Open your back door
I just need to touch you
Once more
Ohhhhhhhhh

I wanna come over
To hell with the consequence
You told me you loved me
That's all I believe
I wanna come over
It's a need I can't explain
To see you again
I wanna come over

Ooooohhhhh
Ooooohhhhh

I know you're confused
I know that you're shaking
You think we'll get lost
Once we begin
I know you're weak
I know that you want me
Lover dont speak
Let me in

I wanna come over
To hell with the consequence
You told me you love me
Thats all I beleive
It's a need I can't explain
I wanna come over
To see you
To see you again

Ok, even if you're a "fag hating good little heterosexual" (and if you are I have no idea what the hell you're doing reading this) you have GOT to admit that this song is sonically AMAZING.

I know, I know, it's stereotypical to have Melissa Etheridge up here, but I don't care because her songs are DAMN good.

Sit down and actually listen to this song once. Pay attention to how the rasp of her voice is a perfect accent to the lust in the lyrics. Have you listened to someone who is nearly out of their head with lust? They rasp. They do not speak. They rasp.

This song is a lonely, heartfelt plea to be with the one who is loved! Who is scared. How many times have you yourself been in a similar situation? As the persuader or the persuaded?

This song speaks on a dual level because of the ambiguity. Never is it said who the lovers ARE.

It has a quiet desperation that is contrasted with the begging scream to be let in. The lover who is speaking is at the end of their rope. They just want to be with the one they love!

I sure as hell don't blame 'em.

People may ask me if I have been in this situation. I reply...not yet.
