Participants will learn how to design a quality of care evaluation project, from identifying causes to defining quality criteria to designing the study to selecting sampling schemes and techniques.

1:00 PM CLOSING THE QUALITY IMPROVEMENT CYCLE

Session Objectives:
Participants will learn about the final stage of the quality improvement cycle, closing the loop. They will learn how to design an intervention strategy as well as reevaluation studies, how to document improvements effectively and how to identify alternative courses of action when barriers are encountered.

Participants will about a methodological framework for designing quality, how to explore needs and expectations, and about methods for quality design.

1: 00 PM DESIGNING A STRATEGY TO IMPLEMENT QUALITY IMPROVEMENT ACTIVITIES

Session Objectives:
Participants will learn how to design a strategy to implement quality improvement activities, including the development of strategic options, the design of a plan of action, and the implementation of strategies to facilitate organizational change.

9:00 AM COUNTRY/ORGANIZATION PRESENTATIONS
Faculty: Paul Campbell and Pedro Saturno
Session Objectives:
Individual participants or groups of participants will gain feedback on quality improvement plans developed during the workshop for home application.
Note: Paul Campbell and Pedro Saturno will be running separate concurrent discussion sessions. Presentations will be followed by general discussion. Participants will be provided with the following outline for their presentations:
1. Problem analysis
2. Project goals
3. Barriers
4. Implementation strategies
5. Timeline
6. QI tools to be used
9:00AM CAPSTONE SESSION
Faculty: Paul Campbell and Pedro Saturno
Session Objectives:
Attendees will have the major themes of the workshop reinforced by examples from the participant presentations, and a discussion of the issues raised from design through implementation and evaluation.
10:15AM WORKSHOP EVALUATION
Faculty: Paul Campbell, Nerissa Majid
Session Objectives:
Recommendations will be identified to improve the effectiveness of the workshop in future years.
