Effects of divorce on children: Views of an American
woman
My parents divorced, and I would not wish it on any child. Even after 54 years it still hurts. And knowing that there are so many children of divorce does not make it any easier. People who divorce think only of themselves. Please do not tell me they are doing it because it is better for their children. Staying together is better for their children.
Learning to love one another despite the differences and to respect one another is a life long process. And sometimes it takes a whole life to understand that. I regret that we teach our children algebra, physics and chemistry and a lot of other subjects that mean nothing in married life. We should be teaching them patience and perseverance, which are essential tools for married people. In stead of distributing condoms in school, we should be teaching what it takes to be a good wife or a good husband and a good parent.
“We pay dearly as a society for this lack of essential education. We have so many broken and hurting families. Some called divorce the best solution to an unhappy marriage; I call it the worst crime against children.”
