Secular “Civilized” Society Vs Nature

“Over the holidays there is an increase in calls from the men who are in the program because they are also stressed and realize that they are,” says Jackson (Ruthanne Jackson, Director of Abuser Services, Center for Prevention of Abuse, Peoria, Illinois). “Especially during the holidays, the men we know that commit domestic violence explains it is not so much about stress at all for them – it is about the feeling that they are losing control over their partner’s actions, or a decision that she has made. That is when he steps in and says, ‘I am going to show you who is still in charge.’” says Jackson. “It is not about anger either,” says she.

“It is about a belief system that men who abuse have the right to ‘because I am the man, you need to fear me, I will do everything that I can do to make sure you are afraid of me,’”says Jackson. She says that theory is supported by society in our media, out television and billboards.

Jackson believes these are not bad men at all: she has counseled doctors, lawyers, schoolteachers. “There is no socioeconomic profile of abusers,” she says.
