Homily Points
12th Sunday A
General.
The name of God has always been especially significant to the Jewish people, not even vocalizing it in their utterance and writing, treating it with great awe. We pray in this Eucharist that we may love and show reverence to this Name so that we might reciprocate the love shown towards us by its bearer, God and His Son Jesus and the Holy Spirit.Jeremiah.
This reading clearly shows the plight of a man in suffering and in mental anguish. It is a prefuguration of Christ whose greatest agony was his being downtrodden by a people for whom he had given the best of his lifetime in accomplishment of the divine mission set by his Father. Yet that is what makes Christ’s suffering and redemption the more valuable – his death for people who had stood out against him and for whom he instead only showed love.Epistle to the Romans.
St Paul argues that inasmuch as it was through one person, Adam, that sin made its entry into the world, so now, by virtue of the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ was life restored to its pristine innocence for all humanity, shorn of all sin once and for all. The sacrament of Baptism signifies such restoration for one and all with a chance being given for reconciliation through the Sacrament of Penance.St Matthew.
Jesus is very clear about saving our souls unto life everlasting. It is also one’s duty to announce openly that which he has received – freely received freely given out. God is in full control of every personal and material situation, being the lord of history. Faith in Jesus is not enough on its own: proclamation is also needed, of Jesus lord of humanity and the Father, Pantokrator, ruler of all.Homilies Index Page - Liturgy of the Hours - Home
