Homily Points
15th Sunday A
General.
God is constantly enlightening the sinner and giving him the grace to convert to Him. God wants man to be aware of the spirit of slavery within him and to recognize that He wants him back to enjoy His divine sonship. The Eucharist gives us the foresight of a new order of things on earth if we only recognize that victory lies in making a sacrifice of oneself, like Jesus did when he gave himself up for us on the Cross, and in giving up all ideas of primacy and superiority.Isaiah.
Many an event which takes place in our lives is not understood by us in its full sense since it is often enough taken to mean only that which it shows at face value. Little would we think of the cycle rain would trigger off to provide food, thinking only of the discomfort it temporarily provides in our daily bustle in life. So does God’s word, uttered from His mouth, perform a mission whose consequences we cannot understand and would not cease having its effect before it has accomplished all in God’s mysterious ways.Romans.
St Paul is very much aware of human weakness and fragility, yet he always pines for better times. He sees humanity enslaved under pride, the root of capital sins, and the antidote to it is freedom in the glory of being children of God. While man lives his physical life, even if baptized and enjoying the first fruits of the spirit, he wishes for better times while expecting to be adopted as a son of God which also brings about salvation to our human bodies. Times will change and we with them, when we will have a glorified body.St Matthew.
Understanding and living the word of God is quite difficult for us if our minds in engulfed in earthly matters. It simply does not bear the same weight on each one of us but only works on us variably according to our disposition. Like a seed which is sown into the earth, its fruit depends on the heart where God’s word finds itself. Worldly vanity and unlimited wealth are huge stumbling-blocks to the opening of one’s ears to what God has to say to a person.Homilies Index Page - Liturgy of the Hours - Home
