Homily Points
25th Sunday A
General.
Obedience to God’s laws makes a Christian worthy of his name. The Eucharist is a sign of God’s love towards humanity, Jesus having given up his body and blood for the redemption and salvation of all mankind even at a time when self-seeking persons were seeking his very life. Jesus was obedient to His Father in accomplishing the mission he was sent for on earth, and we can only walk in his footsteps by being obedient to God’s laws in our normal daily life.Isaiah.
The Church adapts itself to the seasons we pass through and no wonder in summer it casts its thoughts to the multitude of sins which we commit due to our weakened wills. Anger and impurity mostly come to mind. God forgives greatly, no matter what, and we cannot understand God’s doings. What looks like highly logical to us may be shunned by God Who looks at things, conversions included, in quite a different manner. No wonder we lose faith at times because we are not convinced that God is eternal love and that His doings make sense after all. Anything that happens contributes towards goodness, even sin itself or God’s ‘illogical’ actions as seen by human eyes.Epistle to the Philippines.
St Paul is in a quandry about his life and doings. Both physical life and death have a positive meaning for him, and that is how it should be for all Christians. He sees death as a victory over sin and life as living the life of Christ who through Baptism, now lives within him. The most advisable thing to do, in any situation, is to live one’s Christian life in a manner worthy of Christ himself who is within us.St Matthew.
Whatever our life’s mission may be and for how long or how much we would have laboured in accomplishing such mission, we shall all get the same reward of eternal life. Only that this eternal life does not start off after death, but that it starts on earth and we can merit it according to the degree of our mission’s accomplishment we fulfil. God looks at everything we do and He will pass judgment on us at the end of times. Only then the truth will come out and our works will prove the mettle they are made of.Homilies Index Page - Liturgy of the Hours - Home
