Homily Points

Third Sunday of EASTER

General. In our Baptism we have acquired the grace of adoption, and along with it the hope that like Christ we shall rise again with him in our body in the last days. Up till now we have achieved the joy of Easter by means of our rising from an internal, existential death which sin portends in us, and we have a warranty that every sin of ours is forgiven and buried in the baptismal font, which the Easter Vigil and this time recall in abundance.

Acts of the Apostles. Peter has the courage to address the Jews in no uncertain terms about their doings to the Son of God. It was according to the Father’s plan that Jesus was given to the world, inasmuch as it was by the power of God that Jesus was unbound from the trappings of death as he could not be restrained by it, having come into the world to take away its sting from it.

First Epistle of St Peter. Our faith is a continuous urge and hope to meet the Father in person. Christ’s entry into human history was caused as a salvific act which was willed by the Father to show His love towards sinful humanity. Salvation came through a spotless Lamb who will judge everyone according to one’s actions or midsoings in one’s transitory lifetime.

St Luke. Jesus appears to two disciples on their way to Emmaus, talks and shares bread with them. The way Jesus expounded the Scriptures spoke volumes about him. He was a person who knew well what these said, especially about him. The disciples’ hearts were kindled with joy and understanding in the presence of this man of God. When he broke bread with them, they understood he was the Jesus they knew, who feeds humanity with love.
