01. Costs for great achievement
1. To obtain success, one must exert oneself to the utmost.
2. To obtain fortune, one must be diligent.
3. To obtain knowledge, one must study and inquire broadly.
4. To obtain harmony, one must be magnanimous.

02. How to nurture our strength
1. Reading nurtures our strength of knowledge.
2. Researching and learning from others nurtures our strength of understanding.
3. Stepping back nurtures our strength of tolerance.
4. Smiling nurtures our strength of friendliness.

03. How to deal with work
1. Be decisive when undertaking major endeavors.
2. Be mindful when taking on small projects.
3. Do not wish to be known when engaging in altruistic causes.
4. Be patient when dealing with difficult matters.

04. What should man be like
1. Be like a thousand-year-old pine: able to pass through the changes that come with time and weather.
2. Be like a plum tree in the chill of winter: able to endure the tests of ice and snowy weather.
3. Be like a sole orchid in a valley: able to tolerate cold and loneliness.
4. Be like an autumn chrysanthemum: able to countenance the destructiveness of frost and dew.
