'He had a tall tankard in front of him, and was smoking a long-stemmed pipe curiously carved. His legs were stretched out before him, showing high boots of supple leather that fitted him well, but had seen much wear and were now caked with mud. A travel-stained cloak of heavy dark-green cloth was drawn close about him, and in spite of the heat of the room he wore a hood that overshadowed his face; but the gleam of his eyes could be seen as he watched the hobbits.'

Aragorn was born in TA 2931, to Arathorn and Gilraen. He is Isildur's heir from the realm of Gondor. Arathorn died when Aragorn was only young, and his mother took him to the elf-city of Rivendell. Here he was raised by Elrond Halfelven. When Elrond's daughter, Arwen, returned from her grandmother's realm of Lothlorien, Aragorn fell in love with her. Elrond told Aragorn that he would not wed his daughter to anyone less then the King of both Gondor and Arnor. Aragorn went into the wild, and he met up with Gandalf. When Gandalf became worried about the Ring, he set Aragorn to watch the Shire when he is away.

Frodo and the other hobbits met up with Aragorn, or as they were introduced, Strider. He offered to escort them to Rivendell, and helped them try and avoid the ringwraiths. At Rivendell Aragorn joined the Fellowship. After Gandalf fell to darkness in Moria, he led the Fellowship into the woods of Lothlorien. He was given the Elfstone by Galadriel as a sign hope. When Frodo and Sam left to go on to Mordor alone, Aragorn lets them and chooses to track Pippin and Merry, who had been captured by Urak-hai.

Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli set out, and during their chase meet Éomer of Rohan. He reports the killing of the Urak-hai and Éomer is doubtful over the survival of the hobbits. They continue their search, venturing into Fanghorn Forest. They were reunited with Gandalf, and they abandoned the search and continued onto Edoras, the capital of Rohan.

Aragorn fought in many battles, from Helm's Deep, the Battle of Pelennor Fields, and the Last Battle before Gates of Mordor. He travelled along the Paths of the Dead, with his friends Legolas and Gimli. The dead furfilled their oaths and aided Aragorn in the Battle of Pelennor Fields. He returned to Gondor, and healed Faramir, Eowyn and Merry, showing the healing hands of the King. After the War of the Ring he was crowned King of Gondor, and married Arwen. He reigned for many years.

In the movie Aragorn is played by Viggo Morteson.
