     Legolas is a Sindarin Elf who becomes a part of the Fellowship of the Ring. With his keen eyesight, sensitive hearing, and excellent bowmanship. He was born to Thranduil, King of the Elves of Mirkwood Forest. Legolas was sent by his father to Rivendell, to reveal that the creature Gollum had escaped. Elrond choose him to represent Elves in the Fellowship.

     Legolas took a dislike to Gimli, a dwarf in the Company, but after their stay in Lothlorien his attitude towards the dwarf changed. When the Company parted ways, Legolas and Gimli travelled with Aragorn in persuit of Merry and Pippin. Legolas participated in the Battle of Helm's Deep, and formed part of the Grey Company that travelled the Paths of the Dead. He then fought in the Battle of Pelannor Fields and the Last Battle before the Black Gates.

     After the destruction of the One Ring, Legolas and Gimli travel together through Fangorn Forest. Eventually, Legolas went to Ithilien with some of his people, with his father's leave, to live out his remaining time in Middle-earth. After the death of Aragorn, Legolas left Middle-earth to go over the Sea. Gimli's love for his friend, and his desire to see Galadriel once again, convinced him to travel with Legolas.

     In the movie Legolas is played by Orlando Bloom.
