
Main Street Baptist Church
Our Heritage1903 - Columbia Street Baptist Church organized with twelve charter members 1904 - First building completed in sixty days and completely paid for before the dedication. 1913 - Moved to new location on Main Street. 1930 - Mission effort later formed River Avenue Baptist Church. 1935 - Mission effort later formed Thirty-Eighth Avenue Baptist Church. 1941 - Mission effort later formed Twenty-Eighth Avenue Baptist Church. 1942 - New facility dedicated after a fire destroyed part of the building. 1945 - Entire indebtedness of the church liquidated. 1961 - Started Wayside Mission which became self-supporting in 1965 as Beacon Baptist Church 1963 - Main Street voted to sponsor "The Main Street Mission" in the Panama Canal Zone, which became the Laboca Baptist Church on September 23, 1964. 1967 - Dedication of the new Sanctuary.
1993 - Purchased land in West Hattiesburg paid in full. 1995 - Voted to move the church family to the West Hattiesburg location. 1996 - Challenge to build program is successful in unifying the church body in a vision for the future |
