MCLEOD HOUSE

This house was built for businessman John McLeod who moved from the neighboring small town of Purvis in 1896. He was a young merchant who was doing very well because of the booming economy of Hattiesburg's lumber era. His house is a Queen Anne dripping with gingerbread scrollwork, curved porches and turrets. There are two very large camellia's planted on the front lawn of the house that are rumored to be the first specimen of that species in the Hattiesburg area. The Deakle Law Firm now occupies the house which sits on North Main.
