Tung OilTung oil also called Wood Oil, or China Wood Oil, is a pale-yellow, pungent drying oil obtained from the seeds of the tung tree. On long standing or on heating, tung oil polymerizes to a hard, waterproof gel that is highly resistant to acids and alkalis. It is used in quick-drying varnishes and paints, as a waterproofing agent, and in making linoleum, oilcloth, and insulating compounds. Tung oil is produced chiefly in China from the tung tree (Aleurites fordii).
The tung tree also called tung oil tree (Aleurites fordii), is a small Asian tree of the spurge family (Euphorbiaceae), commercially valuable for tung oil, which is extracted from its nut like seeds. In the Orient tung oil was traditionally used for lighting, but it also has important modern industrial uses.
