Gravestones:
Gravestones and tombstones are the quickest and easiet way to decorate your yard. Think of creative names such has, Rick R. Mortis. Gravestones could be made of spray painted cardboard or styrofoam, or even wood painted. Create different types of shapes such as crosses and pillars.
Dummies:
Every year I always create great dummies. I find old clothes and things around the house because its cheap and effective. Look for flannel shirts or jeans. Almost anything you can find but make sure its long pants and long sleeved shirts. I get lots of newspaper and stuffing like shipping peanuts. Fill the clothes and either sew them shut or safety pin (which is faster). Buy a cheap spooky mask and pin or sew on. Put a basketball or vollyball into the head of the mask. Then sew or pin hands (gloves) and shoes onto it. Then figure out the perfect pose. Use garden stakes or string to secure them in your yard or tree. I have done all sorts of poses!
Spooky Pathways:
If you have a long dark pathway up to your door or house, decorate it! Carve pumpkins and light them along the path. Put leaves down over the path. Maybe use the dry ice effect. It will be foggy the whole way up to your porch! Throw down peanuts, when a guest steps on it, it will sound like a cochroach, Put up a sign saying Beware of cochroaches! Also make other sppoky signs like keep out!
Decorating A Porch:
At your local holiday store, buy lots of fake cobwebs! Strech them out as far as you can for more effect. Carved and lighted pumpkins are also great. Maybe even a dummy or two. Stores sell lots of decorations such as rats, floormats, etc. Outside my porch is a hidden boombox. I bought a tape of scary halloween music with sounds. Hide the boombox under a tree or bush. If your not comfortable with putting it outside with an extension cord then place it in a window facing outwards to the porch!
Lighting:
Using a spot light to show off your decorations is a good effect. You can see spooky shadows etc. Black lights are also a good thing to have. If you hung ghosts up in a tree hook the light into the tree and your ghosts will appear an eary purple. A strobe light is a freaky effect. It flashes quickly (you can adjust the speed)!
