Welcome to the Links Page!

Interested in getting that vocabulary homework done quickly? How about a little background info on your favorite poet? Trying to keep current on world events? Or are you just looking for a crossword puzzle to print out and try?

No matter what your interests are (as long as they have something to do with English/Language Arts or a club I advise), there's a good chance you'll find at least one or two interesting links on this page. And if I don't have just what you need yet, check again in a week or two -- I may have updated it again by then!

Enjoy,
Mr. H

General Reference Materials:

The Merriam-Webster's page is much more than an online dictionary. See what else it offers.

Of course, you could also try yourDictionary.com instead.

The Internet Public Library is just like having a world-class research library tucked into your computer. Check it out.

Infomine bills itesof as the site for "scholarly internet resources," and they're not kidding.

If it's published, the Library of Congress probably has it. Why don't you check?

Author-Specific Sites:

Poetry Info:

Poets.org is a great source for brief biographies of hundreds of poets, plus the text of some of their more well-known works.

Poetry.com isn't a site for well-known poets; its focus is on presenting works by lesser-known contemporary poets and also running daily poetry writing contests. The contests are the best part of the site. Go ahead and enter one!

Critical Thinking Sites:

Critical Thinking.org is an interesting site devoted to explaining and developing critical thinking skills.

35 Dimensions of Critical Thought (a part of the Critical Thinking.org website) is a helpful list of the various strategies a critical thinker needs to be willing and able to use for any new ideas or problem, divided into useful categories.

News of the World:

CTNow.com is almost as good as reading the full Hartford Courant if you want to stay up-to-date in state-level news.

Of course, the New York Times is a pretty good paper too!

And don't forget US News & World Report for the weekly perspective.

Fun and Games:

Outdoor Info:

The Great Outdoors Resource Page is the place to turn for up-to-date info on most outdoor activities, and it also features a wide variety of outdoor travel and adventure writing.
