The problem is the media. I listened to the news last night and heard Donaldson of ABC virtually brow-beating President Clinton. Donaldson's questions were answered clearly by Mr. Clinton but Donaldson acted more like a Gestapo inquisitor than an intelligent human being.
I listened to Russert of NBC who sets up interviews with known Clinton-haters, the people most likely to be involved in any plot to undermine and discredit the President.
If he has one Clinton supporter on, he will have two or three, such as that Madalin woman, whatever her name is, who are known for their extreme, fanatical thinking against the Democratic Party.
I could go on but the simple truth is the media is directing their broadcsasts not to the truth but in any direction that will increase their ratings and/or feelings of importance.
They prey on the intelligence of the American public and attempt to quide its thinking to their way of thinking. They do not simply report the news. They do everything they can to create news, even to fabrication, which will give them airtime for their own politicial views by aiding in the conspiracy to discredit Mr. Clinton.
I personally find their techniques dispicable and will spend the rest of my life doing everything I possibly can to assure newscasters in the future are not allowed to abuse the the American public.
I thought people such as Donaldson, Roberts, Russert, Jennings, and others were people who cared about the truth. But, then I realized, they, like so many in the Republican Party, care only about the truth when it suits their purposes.
Where were they when Gingrich was lying for two years about taking funds illegally?
Where were they during the last primaries which was filled with false information by Republicans vying for the nomination?
Why did they not bring up the foreign campaign contributions to the Republican party or other illegal campaign funding practices by the Republican party?
Where were they during the last presidential campaigns? Maybe stuck in the Dole-Kempt camp pretending they were with the 'good' guys. Shows how very little they know.
The truth is not their goal. The truth is the media is seriously abusing their positions as fair and honest news reporters and, in doing so, they are taking advantage of their positions and of the American public.
These people have a responsibility to the public. They have the responsibility to present the news fairly and accurately, not to enter in their own biasing and to aid in any effort to discredit any person.
They do not have the right to publically browbeat anyone,
let
alone the President of the United States. Nor do they have the right to present any other
than facts. Innuendos, what-ifs and the like used to manipulate people's thoughts must
cease.
Ladies and Gentlemen, we can control them. All you have to do is turn them off and write
their networks until their ratings drop. Nice and simple since networks are just as greedy
as our politicians.
