Actually, when hasn't Dole been relying on attacking President Clinton's chararacter? Even when not doing so directly, he has done so indirectly through his aids and his sidekick, Kemp. Just making statements such as, "I could but I'm not like that" indicates to the public that he thinks that Clinton's character is questionable.
He has attacked Clinton through the back door during every chance he has had. He and his wife were asked, for example, during the interview by B. Walters on ABC's 20/20, about the Red Cross receiving funds from the tobacco industry. Somehow, he got Walters off the question and attacked Clinton through the increase in drug usage by young people.
Anytime he has been interviewed during newscasts, he got in negative statements about Clinton's administration. It is at the point this writer has gotten sick and tired of seeing him on the tube. It is certain that he will be negative about Clinton rather than explaining his programs and how he would handle problems, both domestic and foreign.
To date, this writer has never heard Dole explain exactly how he would resolve different problems. It is very easy to conclude that he doesn't have any solutions, that he does not know how he would handle problems, such as the middle- East.
Since he doesn't have solutions, then he becomes part of the problem. It is very easy to knock another while not wearing their shoes but very difficult to define in clear terms what should have been done or what would be done and how.
The writer doesn't know if Dole has considered it or not but it would be very easy for character assassination to be turned around on him.
Dole has been a professional politician and behaved throughout his career as underhandedly as any politician who has ever existed. Maybe the newscasts and investigators should concentrate on Dole's ties to big business, such as the tobacco industry and various agri-businesses.
Perhaps we should know all about his benefits from various corporations, such as those that provide aircraft for his use. Why didn't Walters, during her interview with Dole, ask him about these matters?
There is an old saying that before you start criticizing another, you had best make sure that your own house is clean first. Maybe we should muddle around in Dole's and find the type of man Dole really is, not the personna he is presenting as being as pure as the newly fallen snow.
Like, what would we find out if the real reasons for his divorce were made public? For certain, family values have been avoided by the Republican campaign. Why??? There must be reasons or both he and Kemp would have been using values as a campaign tool. So, maybe he isn't as pure as he would have people believe.
The writer just heard a newscast on the radio in which Dole stated that Clinton lies, that he promises one thing to get elected, and, then, does another. Is Dole any different?
Check this out. Even with his proposed tax cuts, he has never explained how it would be done. Plus, he has also lied to the public or, at least, presented part of his true nature. He has seldom supported any tax cuts but has lead the battles to increase taxes by $900,000,000,000 (that's 900 billion dollars) during his career.
Thus, he doesn't really believe in tax cuts; it is just a tool to try to get into the presidency. He is just acting as a normal politician by saying what he thinks will get him votes.
And, this writer doesn't really believe that he proposed tax
increases in all the elections that kept him in office. That would have
assured his defeat in each and every one.
So, just what did he promise his constituency?
If you listen to what Dole says in a campaign, Ladies and Gentlemen, you had better be
ready to pay the price if (God forbid) he gets into office. Check his record, listen to his
statements, and relate the two.
You will find the epitomy of, as many of his
own party members stated during the primaries, "just another
Washington politician."
And, don't forget to beware of the wolf wearing sheep's clothing.
Politically speaking, it is highly probable that that phrase describes Dole to a
T.
