APRIL ARCHIVE

April 21
The mighty Sidewinders left Calgary with a win on Sunday, and after a day off start up against the Las Vegas Stars. They split with the Stars in Vegas, and doing at least that would be good, as the team starts off an arduous 12 day road trip in Saturday, with visits to Edmonton, Nashville and Memphis. There are three 6:05 games, with a Friday 2:05 sneak away from work game.

April 19
The Cannons finally got their first home win in front of a huge crowd on Saturday. Sidewinder pitcher Dave Pavlas gave up three home runs in the bottom of the 8th, to get the loss, the first the Sidewinders have suffered at Burns.
Some quick impressions on the team thus far: Either the Sidewinders have a good pitching staff or the Cannons don't have a lot of punch. The Cannons got three unearned runs in the 8th for the win. Besides Benji Gill and Mario Valdez, nobody is hitting over .240. That's very worrisome, especially as how Gill can't be expected to be in Calgary the entire season. The series concludes tomorrow afternoon, with the Cannons getting Monday off.

April 12
With the win last night over Las Vegas, Calgary goes to 3-2 on the season. One really wild stat is that as of today, Calgary has the lowest ERA in the league, at 3.30. I wonder when was the last time you were able to say that of any Cannons team, even this early in the season? On the downside, despite 7 homers, we're 13th in hitting. Opening Day is Thursday!

April 11
Only five days until Opening Day! The Cannons split with Fresno, in a launching pad of a park, with a combined 14 home runs in the four games. Two games went into extra innings, and Cannons fans will be a bit worried about the inability last night to hold a lead. That of course was the downfall of the team last year (well, one of them...) However, it could be worse. The Nashville Sounds, Pittsburgh's new AAA club, is last in ERA at 7.98, and 0-4 after being swept by Iowa. Iowa hitters batted .341 during the series.

April 8
Well, the Cannons started off the season in less than great fashion, giving the Fresno Grizzlies their first win, by a score of 4-3. One positive thing however, is that I have learned that Fresno's games are indeed broadcast online. Click on the logo to listen to the games. You need the RealPlayer in order to hear the game. The signal isn't great (mono), but you can hear it. The games start at 8pm MDT, but there is the possibility of rain. The game can be heard at:
