Blood Promises:
Darkness Calls
By Hayden Davidson
The Prologue:
Fall of Night
The orange flame slowly sank over the city of New Orleans, the big easy. As the shadows deepened, people headed to their homes. Weary after a long day. But some in the city were just awaking up to the dusk. Waking up to the newborn night. Some where just the unlucky souls that worked the grave yard shift. Other were those that lived for the parties, the clubs, and the nightlife.
And then there were them. Those that truly lived for the night. The darkness. They ruled the night, and when it fell over the city of New Orleans, they owned her. The unseen master and mistresses of the night. And for those that had the misfortune of capturing their attention…….
As he stepped into the street from the elegant French Quarter home, the man straightened his black leather jacket. He loved the night, it was his element. His playground. Golden eyes glittered from behind his sunglasses, as he ran a hand through his perfect coal black hair. To say he was handsome was a crime. He was beautiful.
Wearing tight black jeans and a white shirt, he put the sexiest Hollywood leading man to shame. Smiling at a young woman who jogged pasted him; his pure white teeth seemed to glisten in the fading light. Usually he would have done more than smile at the woman, but he wasn't after her tonight. Oh know he had a far better one…
Pulling a picture of an attractive blonde woman in her early 20's out of his pocket, he traced her jaw line with his finger. Such a specimen. And she would soon be his. Those green eyes would soon shine gold….
Soon she will be mine…
Across the city, a young woman's green eyes flashed in anger at her champion. "You can't tell me what to do! You don't own me, Rimfire."
"Haydy, would you listen to reason! Why should you move from Detroit to here? There are three plutkains in Louisiana! Think babe!" Rimfire said trying to stay calm.
"This job is a great opportunity for me Rim! Why should I give it up? And it's only for the winter, I'll be back in Detroit by June!" She crossed her arms glaring at him.
"If you do this I won't come with you!" The words came out before he could stop them.
Hayden looked like he had just hit her; her eyes were wide and hurt. "You really mean that? After all we've been through, you'll throw it away over where I live?!" Her voice was cold. "FINE! Be like that."
"FINE!" He said back.
The two walked, down the empty street towards the hotel in silence. Neither of them spoke or even looked at each other. And as the last of the sun faded and the street lamps came on, Hayden's green eyes glittered with tears…..
Mine……
More is coming……
So don't heed darkness' call
