Searching for a keyword
  • To search for a specific word or phrase, enter the word or phrase and press Enter or click the Keyword icon.
  • Note: Hitlists returned from keyword searches can be sorted by clicking on any column header that has an underline.
  • Example: To search for items that have the word "rainbow" anywhere in their description, type rainbow.
  • To search for items that contain the phrase "over the rainbow," type over the rainbow.
  • Unsure of the spelling? Getting too many results?
  • Use Limiters to narrow your search to a specific reading level or interest level.
  • If you're having trouble finding an item with the keyword search, try using another word or search method.
  • If your keyword search produces too many titles, try a Power search.

    Searching for a subject
  • When you need information about a certain topic, enter the topic's name and click the Subject icon.
  • Example: To search for titles about computers, type computers. Unsure of the spelling? Getting too many results?
  • Use Limiters to narrow your search to a specific reading level or interest level.
  • a subject is known by more than one name.
  • If the library you're searching has See and See also cross-references, you can jump to the other subjects.
  • If you can't find a subject, try using another word or search method.

    Searching for a title
  • When you need to find a title, enter the title and click the Title icon.
  • Example: To search for The Cat Ate My Gymsuit, type cat ate my gymsuit.
  • Unsure of the spelling? Getting too many results?
  • Use Limiters to narrow your search to a specific reading level or interest level.
  • If you can't find a title, you may need to include the first word of the title if it's A, An, or The. If you're still having trouble, try using another search method.

    Searching for an author
  • When you need a title by a specific author, enter all or part of the author's name (last, first, middle initial) and click the Author icon.
  • Example: To search for titles by E. B. White, type white, e. b. Unsure of the spelling?
  • Getting too many results?
  • Use Limiters to narrow your search to a specific reading level or interest level.
  • Sometimes an author is known by more than one name.
  • If the library you're searching has See and See also cross-references, you can jump to the names under which the author's works are listed.
  • If you can't find an author, try using the author's pen name or another search method.
  • Example: If you can't find titles by Mark Twain, try searching for Clemens, Samuel.
  • Note: If you want to find titles about an author, try a subject or keyword search on the author's name.

    Searching for a call number
  • Searching by call number comes in handy if you know the title's call number, and you want to find out whether it's available.
  • A call number search can also be useful if you know the call number prefix for a particular section of the library.
  • To search for a title by its call number, enter the call number and click the Call # icon.
  • Remember, a call number appears as two rows on the spine of a book, but you enter it as a single row with a space between the original rows.
  • Example: To search for 398.2 MIN, type 398.2 min.
  • To look for a title in a specific part of the library, enter the first few numbers or letters of the call number for that section, then scroll through the list to locate the one you want.
  • If you still can't find a title, try using another search method.
  • Example: If the library you're searching uses FIC to identify fiction titles, type fic.
  • Limiters do not apply to call number searches.

    Searching for a series title
  • To find the titles in a particular series, enter the series title and click the Series icon.
  • Example: To search for a title in the series called The Chronicles of Narnia, type chronicles of narnia.
  • Unsure of the spelling? Getting too many results?
  • Use Limiters to narrow your search to a specific reading level or interest level.
  • If you can't find a series, you may need to include the first word of the series title if it's A, An, or The. If you still can't find a series, try using a title search.
