League Rules

The emphasis of our program has been and will continue to be participation. In order to maintain a balance between participation and competition, the following rules have been established. Please keep in mind that these rules will not cover every situation. When resolving disputes, remember that the youth of West Little Rock should be the beneficiaries.

Each participating homeowners’ association must designate a member to attend the annual meeting and help the West Little Rock Optimist Club in organizing the program.

Meet Operation

Meets will be conducted on Tuesday evenings with the warm-ups at 6:00 p.m. and meets starting at 6:30 p.m. The meets will begin June 22. Each team will swim in four meets – two at home and two at another association’s pool. For home meets, the hosting association must reserve the pool for meet use. The home team will be responsible for the operation of the dual meets. The home team will provide stroke judges, scorekeepers and a starter. It is suggested that each pool provide its own lifeguard during the competitions. Participation ribbons are given at each dual meet and at the championship meet.

Eligibility

The swimmer’s age as of June 1 will determine their age group for the entire season.

Age Groups

Competition will be provided for the following age groups: 6 and under, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14.

Event Limitation

Each swimmer will be permitted to enter two individual events. Relays will be scheduled only at the championship meet or optionally at the dual meets.

Meet Entries

Entries will be filled out in advance and turned in by 6:00 p.m. to the host team. Late entries will be accepted until 6:30 p.m.

Scoring

Individual scoring for each event will be 5 points for 1st place, 3 points for 2nd place and 1 point for 3rd place. Accurate times must be kept when more than one heat is swum to insure proper scoring. Relays will be scored 7 points for 1st place and 0 points for 2nd place.

Each swim meet will be covered by rules of USA Swimming.
