Kallar Kahar

Kallar Kahar (Kahar means lake ) is located about 40km from Bhera towards Islamabad on the motorway in the north side of the salt range. It is a pleasant shady place for a picnic. On a terrace above the trees is the tomb of a Muslim saint with peacocks. The lake is salty and shallow and haven for birds.

In 1519 , when Babur , the first of the Moghul Emperor , crossed the Salt Range he was so impressed by the site of Kallar Kahar that he ordered a garden to be laid out overlooking the lake. On his return north , a few months later, he stopped to inspect it.

Hindu Temples at Ketas

The ruins of Hindu Temples at Ketas are easily accessible. These are located on the main road from Kallar Kahar to Choa Saidan Shah. Until partition ( 1947 ) Ketas was an imprtant center of pilgrimage for hindus , and still boasts an impressive collection of buildings which are fun to explore. Thousnads of pilgrims flocked to Ketas every April to bathe in a pool sacred to the Hindu god Shiva.
