Being drowsy about our lives can lead to a kind of death that may be much more serious than even physical death. Jesus tells us to be on guard against anything that can kill our spirits. When we drift through life, paying very little attention to the real issues in our lives, we have abandoned ourselves to wherever life wants to take us. Our Psalm tells us: Lord, make me know your ways. Teach me your paths. These are words that call for a heightened awareness of where life is taking us. We will only come to know the ways of the Lord when we also come to know our own ways. When we become aware of the paths in life that we are choosing and actually creating for ourselves, we then can be open to finding the paths of God.
