Vietnamese film Ao Lua Ha Dong (The White Silk Dress) directed by Luu Huynh is to complete documents necessary for a 2008 Oscar entry in the best foreign language film category.
The film tells the story of the misfortunes of a Vietnamese couple, Dan and her humpbacked husband, and their attempt to hold on to a precious Ha Dong silk dress that belonged to Dan’s mother. The movie also highlights the beauty of the traditional "ao dai" (Vietnamese long dress) to the audience.
The film has won many international awards including prizes at the Busan International Film Festival in October 2006, and the Fukuoka International Film Festival in Japan in 2007. Actress Truong Ngoc Anh and actor Quoc Khanh contributed a lot to the success of the film by putting in excellent performances.
