Hello my name is Enrique, and I live in Buenos Aires, Argentina’s capital city. I’m 28 years old, my friends call me ‘Checho’.
About the punk rock movement, the firsts bands started in the early 1981, some bands were, Los Testiculos, Los Laxantes, Los Violadores and few others, the only band who continue playing (a few times per year) is Los Violadores, this band is a great influence in the whole hardcore punk movement.
Buenos Aires hardcore’s scene started in the begining of 1989 with bands which exposed a hardcore punk style (Exploited/GBH/Discharge/Agnostic Front/Sick of it all) with influences of crossover style.
There are some bands who splited up but they were an influence for the new bands, I can name some old bands like Diferentes Actitudes Juveniles, Existencia De Odio, No Demuestra Interes, Indiferencia, Eterna Fuerza Natural, Buenas Intenciones, Psicotraccion, Autocontrol, Confort Supremo, Ideas Totalmente Adolescentes, Despertar, Buscando Otra Diversion, Venganza, Alternativa Positiva. The bands who have been playing or keeping the flame of hardcore alive are:
Acidos Populares: a band multi-style, they play punk-patchanga-ska-rockabilly style, with political lyrics, they change the line up all the time, two of them edit zines (both zines are very influential to the scene, ‘Bs As Underground’ and Bs As Desorden’). Get in touch with them.:Maxi Vadala

Minoria Activa: They started in 1992. Actually they are the oldest band from the Argentina’s Capitol, in the past they’ve the charasteristic of having two singers, now they have one singer (Moncho, the only original member). After some changes in line up, they’re still in action awaiting to release of their third CD. Discography: split cassete with Buenas Intenciones called “Reflejando dolor”, a 7” (out of print, very hard to find) called Minoria Activa (now released in a CD called ‘Seven inches sessions), a CD called ‘En el nombre del sufrimiento’ and their new CD is comming in August 2000. Otra Salida: They started in 1993, their style is very NYHC, like Madball, at the moment this band have 2 CDs and 1 tape, the first CD is hard to find because the record label broke, and the tape is released by the band and include 13 songs very well recorded in a studio, it’s called ‘Tiempo de Continuar’ (Time to continue), their new CD is a split (Golpe a Golpe) with other metal core band called E.C.O. Propia Decisión: Old school in the style of Misconduct or Shutdown, not SxE, their lyrics are about free abort, anti-militarism, and other social themes, they have 1 tape released by a record label who broke and now they have a new tape released by ‘X el Cambio Records’, soon they will release a CD with a lot of songs, I recommend this band for all the youth crew fans..

Movil Vission: The local version of Bad Brains, hardcore mixed with reggae music, two singers, two rastafaris plays in the band: one is the guitar player and the other one is singer, they have a split CD with Cucsifae (grunge.core), and also some tapes, all selfrealased, lyrics about freedom, latino american problems, pro-marihuana, animal liberation, and more.

There are some places where you can see hardcore punk shows like “Teatro del Plata” at Cerrito 200, “Cemento” at Estados Unidos 1200, and others like ‘Fun House’, ‘Big Blue’, ‘Club De Arte’, and others places but in general they are closed by severals circunstances (fights between punks & skins, or sxe between drunk kids)...
For the vegetarians there are some places where they eat a delicious food, the places are: “La esquina de las flores” and the other one is “Lotos” , both places at Avenida Cordoba 1500 (avennue Cordoba), also there are some arabian food very good, and pizzerias very cheap like ‘Ugy’s’ or ‘Pizza Papa!’ (La Paternal).
For the hooligans hardcore there are some shops where you can buy photos from the hooligans crews from local soccer teams, there is one shop called ‘EL Fogonazo” at Avenue Nazca 1800. The photos cost like 2 dollars more or less.
If you want to buy some records I recommend to go to a park called ‘Parque Rivadavia’ where you can find some independent labels selling their stuff with prices from u$s 2 (a tape) and u$s 10 (a CD), also second hand stuff (CD/LP/7”), pirate stuff, you can find some personalities from the HC/Punk scene, every sunday, the address is ‘Avenida Rivadavia and Avenida Acoyte’. See you there!
There are some galleries but the prices are very high, for example: a CD cost u$s 22 or 25, a tape cost u$s 10, forget these fuckin’ place.
