CONCERT REVIEW

RILO KILEY/M.WARD/STATISTICS

"Another day, when everything's the same and nothing ever changes, at all" sings Denver Dalley from Statistics to a crowded concert room. When Rilo Kiley, M. Ward, and Statistcs were in town, it was not just another day. Statistics played with a surprising amount of energy, even though it was only their first show on the tour. They played songs from the EP that came out June 17 including the first track "Another Day". Like a good opener is obliged to do, it got me pumped up about the following acts. M. Ward showed up on stage with members of Rilo Kiley, and displayed his excellent guitar skills. I am sorry that I can not recall any of the song titles, but I must say you have to see this guy play his guitar, IT'S AMAZING! Really, if I had 1/100 of M. Ward's talent, I would be respectively famous. Some people may not agree with me, because they were talking during his set, which seemed extremely short, and M. Ward responded to this by saying "All you loud Mothers out there, I only have one more song left" (something to that effect), and he broke into a beautiful acoustic song. Finally, Rilo Kiley exploded on stage and performed with fervor that made everyone dance. They played a couple of songs from Takes Offs and Landings, but most of them were from The Execution of All Things. Don't think you can get rid of the previous acts. M. Ward joined Rilo Kiley and played a song that Blake said was "a new song called go buy M. Ward's CD". Dalley hopped on stage for "With Arms Outstretched" and he turned the microphone toward the crowd, so we could all join in the chorus at the end and clap along to the beat. Unfortunately, I left before the encore to buy the Statistics EP that I have been searching for it since June. As I left the merchandise table with the prized EP and a t-shirt, I squeaked, "Hope you come back" to Dalley, and he smiled and said, "Yea, definitely".
