Everybody Else

Do you ever have those periods in your life when you really need to listen to upbeat music. You’re just sick of, “I left my heart on your doorstep, and you stomped all over it with your running spikes."
Carrick Moore Gerety is probably the most optimistic person about love by writing pure pop perfection tunes. Gerety’s amazing Paul McCartney-esque voice flows through Kevin Seaton’s bass licks and Mike McCormack’s enthusiastic drumming. Gerety was formerly in the lovely indie band, The Push Kings who disbanded recently, and McCormack was in The Waking Hours, who still continue to rock to this day. All three of them bring a different factor to the band producing charming poppin’ and rockin’ songs.
In their repertoire they have upbeat and impatient songs that make you get up and belt out their tunes in front of the mirror with the choice of a hairbrush or a comb in hand. In “Best Friend” you even have to rewind the chorus, “I don’t care if your gun has a bullet for me. I really mean it, you still need a best friend.” The optimism is truly amazing, and the lighthearted song concedes lyric so easily that you miss the line completely because you’re absorbed into the song. The phrase, “don’t forget to dream” seems to follow them everywhere in the song titled after the phrase. The phrase is simple, yet unforgettable, reminding you to don’t forget to dream. Of course there’s at least one song about girls, but it’s not even close to being nauseatingly sappy. “You got the money I want so bad, I love them rich girls. You got the loving that I want so bad, I love them poor girls,” confesses a torn Gerety.
I can’t say anything about their live shows, because they have yet to come to our area, but I’ve heard good things. They really really really need to come out here and alleviate the neurosis going around here (note: that’s a formal plea for a show).
Please don’t label the trio as a boy band; that’s extremely inaccurate. The word “boy band” gives the impression of pretty boys that can’t rock hard, and can’t write their own songs. They are not anything of that sort; they’re just truly talented musicians, and yes, that is accurate.
