21. The Clearing

I turn off my TV and plug in to my imaging machine. I bring up a virtual teleportation window and type in, 'stimulated simulation journey to The Headwaters Forest'. And when the 666 unit has finished loading, I find myself in the middle of the thickest forest I've ever experienced. There are trees everywhere; vines twist all over everything; it's so dense that I can hardly move -- It's awesome!

I say to myself, "I should've brought my machete with me, then I could make a little clearing and stretch out my limbs and relax."

Suddenly the virtual guides pop up, "Did you say clearing? Look here!" They point under a holographic fern to a rock with a tab on it that says, 'CLEAR'.

"Click on the tab," they say, smiling. I click and suddenly I am looking out over a vast wasteland of geometric forms and tree-stumps.

I gasp, "This isn't the frequency I want! Where did the forest go?"

There's no answer. I've lost contact with Imaging Control Central. Nothing is being transmitted. Nothing is being received.
