Keeping my spirit alive is extremely important to me. It helps to keep me balanced and centered. I have learned that a little bit of "selfishness" is good. So many of us have learned that to do or ask anything for ourselves is selfish. On the other hand, if we don't take care of ourselves, we become unable to care for others and suffer from burn-out. Our bodies and spirits then suffer terribly. I try to remember to do something for me once a day. Sometimes it's reading a book, taking a walk, meditating, or taking a bubble bath. Other times it's something as simple as taking a shower or giving myself permission to do nothing but enjoy my child's happiness and beauty. Sometimes, stealing a moment for yourself means you have to say "no" to somebody, or ask somebody else to "watch the baby" for 15 minutes, but it can become one of the most important things you can do both for yourself and for your friends and family. You can feed your spirit through work as well. Building Healing Spirits 2000 has become one of the greatest things I could have ever done for my spirit. Sometimes it is a lot of hard work, but turning trauma into a positive healing tool has made it a pleasure. Many of these little things I do for myself have come to me by listenning to my spirit, but many more have come from hearing others share how they like to care for themselves. I am looking forward to reading and posting your spirit stories. |
