What is mental conditioning and how does it work? Mentalconditioning is the result of what has been repeatedly impressed upon the brain. It is demonstrated in the form of behavior. This is true for both positive and negative programming.
In our opinion it is the most important tool that can be used to `sell' anyone an idea. When we say `sell' we are using it in the broad sense.
Every teacher sells students everyday on the worth of education. Every parent sells his or her children on particular forms of behavior. Every boss sells the employees on the value of working for them. Every ad agency sells the public on specific products or services. You would not be reading this is someone had not beensold on the idea of manufacturing a home computer, and so it goes.
In this free market system that is now a world market the buyer always makes a choice of yes or no for the product or service offered. It has long been recognized that spaced repetition turns new ideas into automatic action. For example what comes to mind when you hear or read the following – CREST, TIDE, MUSTANG, PLOP PLOP, FIZZ FIZZ? You are right, what jumps into the mind is toothpaste, detergent, automobile and Alka-Seltzer. You would not have known that 100 year ago. In fact you would have said: "the top of a wave, the alternate rise and fall of the surface of the ocean, a wild horse, and a noise that a steam engine makes".
Advertising, the best example of spaced repetition has proven that 62 percent of most ideas are accepted only after they have been repeated at least six times. The most effective way to get their audience to accept the advertised product or service is to involve the audience in the idea through the power of the imagination. Stop for a moment; look at an ad on TV or in a magazine. Notice how many of your senses are involved. Become aware of the emotion that is stirred within you. If emotion has been aroused the advertiser has done her job. You buy on emotion and if you feel this will benefit you in some way your mind begins to focus on having that product or service. You make decisions on how you feel, not on logic.
This may be the reason some students find school is dull, boring, and hard to deal with and so on. Their teachers have not been able to get them to feel that learning is fun, adventurous, or worthwhile in some way. Often students say, "How is this going to help me when I get out of school? I can't get into this." They cannot see/feel thebenefit to learning, and so they turn it off. These students are then labeled "underachievers". Perhaps it's a frustrated parent who says: "when I tell him/her once that should be enough". Again the child did not buy what the parent was selling because he/she has not had enough spaced repetition that included specific benefits of accepting the parents words.
The mind is a wonderful mechanism, it has a perfect memory, and in fact a person remembers everything that has happened since conception. Lack of interest in a new idea is not lack of memory. It only means that the person has not internalized; has not gotten involved emotionally.
Involvement is the key to any sale. You can use your mental powers to recondition you negative or false beliefs about yourself. To reprogram your mind may we suggest the following system?
Negative thought have no influence over me. Positive thoughts and ideas fill my mind I am in control. I am love, loving and beloved.
To emphasize this we will use the following example.
Carpe Diem… Dr. Anne
