--»Whether or not the Hepatitis C Virus is spread through sexual transmission is debated. This page describes a few of the precautions to consider when having sex.

As with any disease, people with HCV are encouraged to discuss sexual transmission with their partners. It is thought that through sexual contact the Hepatitis C Virus can occur in rare instances. It is important that your partner is informed enough to make the decision that is best for them.
(Check with your health care provider for full and current information.)

Having unprotected sex with multiple partners seems to increase the risk of spreading Hepatitis C.

It is suspected that a man can contract the HCV from menstrual blood, so avoid sex during this time of the month if the female is infected with the HCV.

It is recommended that you take extra precautions when engaging in anal sex because of an increased risk of bleeding.

Women tend to be at a greater risk for contracting Hepatitis C from men than men do from getting it from a woman because of the likelihood of small tears in the vaginal tissue.

Avoid unsafe sex if you have any sores or open lesions such as herpes.

There has been research indicating there are no traces of the Hepatitis C virus present in sexual fluids, but some medical professionals disagree with this finding.
--»You should consult with your own health care provider in order to be fully informed of all possible risks.
