"It may still be less than a year since the stunning "Critical Resistance"
debut propelled Indicator to the status of local hardcore heroes but already
they're back and if the aforementioned E.P was the sound of a young band cautiously
treading into the punk scene then "Only A Future" is the sound of
them running at it head first, fists raised, leathers and studs flying. Throughout
the 11 tracks on the EP the band confirm that they are older, wiser and, most
importantly, more pissed off with the world than ever before. Frantic opener
"Significance" is 50 seconds of rage that boasts a chorus that will
no doubt be chanted by many a pissed up fan at any future gigs whereas live
favourites like "Worthless Confession", "Only A Future"
and "Oppression" seethe and spit with a new found passion and ferocity
now that they've finally been committed to tape. On "I.C.P" both Jee
and Lewis deliver the kind of vocal performance that makes Ian MacKaye sound
like Will Young and "Polluted Minds" is nothing other than fucking
amazing. Other highlights include the slightly insane "Uniform", the
anti Royal rant that is "Snobs" and closer "Tax" which will
no doubt cause a few trouser accidents if played too loudly. In other words
this is the best release by a Leeds band for ages that easily puts Indicator
up there with local legends and now non existent Pinkeye. Show your appreciation
for this; buy the CD, learn the songs and dance your arse off to them at gigs.
You know you want to…"

"Here's a band who inspire me and well on my recommended list, one of the
highlights so far this year was playing a gig with these lads in Leeds. I really
like what Indicator have to offer, a bunch of very young lads (14-17 apparently)
these boys seem to have their heads well screwed on, they are very political
veering towards anarcho ideals and covering subjects such as fighting racism
and conformity. Hope they keep up the good work; it's good to see the youth
kicking back and not leaving it to old codgers like me. Musically they have
been compared to Minor Threat meets The Varukers, not a bad comparison, it's
kind of classic H/C punk, not resorting to Grind core, with fairly audible lyrics,
very good musically. I haven't listened to this album much yet and maybe I can't
think of a song, which matches the classic "Critical Resistance" which
they released on a DIY EP last year. Indicator are a great band who should be
given the chance to grow and are well worth checking out live if you get the
chance, if not then buy the CD's, "Polluted Minds" a great Smash the
National Front number, "Snobs" is having a go at the Royal Family
which gives you an idea what these guys are about. "Worthless Confession",
sticks out as a favorite on this CD with a neat brief interlude of cheesy metal
guitar Only a Future is priced about 3 pounds and Critical resistance will set
you back about the same and well worth getting..."

"LETS GO!!! – I can’t believe how fucking excellent this is
– another young Leeds band that blows everyone else out of the water –
you’ve got to see this band live if you can – fucking amazing!!
– These guys are really young – and very very talented… like
the bastard offspring of some weird sexual encounter between DS13 / DEFIANCE
and MINOR THREAT… this is what punk rock is all about – Fast, loud,
snotty and political! – I’ve said it before and I’ll say it
again – Fuck all that punk revival shit – why bother paying good
money to go and see a bunch of fuckers going through the motions like it was
“back in the day”, when there are ace UK bands like INDICATOR /
THE NARCOTIX / WAR AGAINST REASON / THE MINGERS / BOXED IN / THE HORROR / THE
FILIMENTS / POUNDAFLESH / THE FREAKS UNION….and many more.. living the
life and ripping it up!! – Fuck Yeah!! (16/5/03)"
