Physical Health

This section is still under construction, so the next time you vist these pages, you should observe some expansion. It is planned to include data on diet, environmental impact, excercise, and nutrition.

Physical health should be of paramount importance to all of us. Prevention of disease is much easier and much less costly than the treatment of illness.

Diet & Nutrition

While diet is a major component of maintaining good health it no longer a complete solution. Unfortunately, the soils where our foods are produced have become depleted as the nutrients have been used by the long term plantings, so, our food no longer contains the nutrients it once did. Therefore, we must take nutritional supplements to keep our body healthy.

This provides another challenge - getting quality nutritional products that are readily absorbed by the body. We have found a company that has exceptionally high quality liquid nutritional products. The company is a 20 plus year old company that develops and manufactures all of their products. Until about four years ago, their only distribution was through doctors and other health care providers. Take a look at their products.

A proper diet is a major component for the control of diabetes. For more information visit the Diabetes Research Wellness Foundation.

Environmental Impact

A healthy home is a key ingredient to having a Healthy Life. Naturally, we all think our home is healthy. You have probably been poisoning yourself for years without even knowing it. With air-conditioning, many family members spend the majority of their time inside the home. An EPA survey concluded that indoor air is 3 to 70 times more polluted than outdoor air. 90% of the time, this is caused by fumes from toxic household cleaners. The Enviromental Protection Agency has identified our homes as the "Highest Toxic Waste dumps."

Don't be suprised, but the products that we buy in the local stores to help us keep our homes and bodies clean and safe contain toxins. How can this be? Our goverment has very limited powers to regulate manufacturers or require testing of their products.

Here are some rather alarming facts:

  • A product that kills 50% of lab animals through ingestion or inhalation can still be classified, "non-toxic."

  • No law requires manufacturers to list the exact ingredients on the label.

  • The FDA cannot require a company to test their personal care products before releasing them to the public.

  • Of 17,000 chemicals used in common household products, only 30% have been tested for their effect on human health and less than 10% have been tested for their effect on the nervous system.

  • The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health analyzed 2,983 chemicals used in personal care products with the following results:
  • 883 were toxic
  • 778 caused accute toxicity
  • 376 caused skin and eye irritants
  • 314 caused biological mutations
  • 218 caused reproductive complications
  • 148 caused tumors

You can't trust warning labels, one New York study found that 85% of products they examined had incorrect warning labels.

Even if harsh and dangerous active ingredients are listed, frequently the remainder of ingredients are lumped under inert (non-active) ingredients. In fact, many of 1,000 chemicals used as inert ingredients are more harmful than the active ingredients. Even suspected cancer causing substances are used as inert ingredients in household products.

So, it's almost impossible to determine the contents of many products. So, what is the solution to acquiring the products that will make you home healthier? Use products produced by companies with a social conscience and dedicated to providing healthy choices.
