Nothing Hidden
“For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open.”
Jesus ' words above are found in Luke 8:17. On another day, Jesus taught the same truth, recorded by Luke at 12:2. On at least two other occasions, Jesus taught the same thing. See Matthew 10:26 and Mark 4:22 .
This is the most frequently recorded teaching of Jesus . It is a clear warning to everyone about trying to conceal anything. David is an example of how far we are willing to go in trying to conceal sin. The Lord sent Nathan to David because he could not escape his denial by himself. Neither can we. God will not be mocked by hiding sin. His goodness leads us to repentance , though some refuse (Rev.2:21). Jesus said, “except you repent, you shall all likewise perish.”- Luke 13:5
Scripture shows that self-deception is a possibility for us all. Disciples need each other to point out what we overlook in ourselves. Paul wrote, “Brethren, even if a man be overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; looking to yourself, lest you also be tempted.”- Galatians 6:1. James concludes with a similar word ( 5:19 -20). These verses indicate that sin was anticipated, but provision for forgiveness has been made. We don't have to hide our sins if we trust in Jesus .
Our assemblies should provide times for each of us to open our hearts and receive the power of Jesus ' forgiveness from others. But most assemblies are only controlled programs, without any place to allow the opening of hearts that will bring Jesus ' healing.Jesus described himself, “meek and lowly in heart.” When we receive his Spirit in the birth from Above, we begin to be like him. If we remain proud and concealing, have we received the birth from Above?
The death of the cross is so great a death that it can cleanse us from all sin.
Only pride stands between our life - and the Life that is eternal.
May he open our eyes to see our need while we may yet receive him.
“All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.”- Edmund Burke
“But having the same spirit of faith, according to that which is written, I believed, and therefore did I speak; we also believe, and therefore also we speak;” – 2 Corinthians 4:13
