Heart's Bern

LONG-lasting friendships are rare in the showbiz world. In the case of
actress and VJ Heart Evangelista, however, she sure has found a friend in
Bern Duenas, who also happens to be her favorite make-up artist.
Thw two instantly hit it off after meeting for the first time. Heart
remembers that day, which was on a pictorial for the movie Trip. "Bern was
doing the makeup for the boys in the cast. He was only introduced pero he
was nice to everyone. And pretty kalog too."
Their first project together was a StarStudio assignment for the May 2002
issue where Bern did the makeup for the Santacruzan photoshoot.
Heart liked Bern's work, so she and her mom decided that they would get only
hi for all their advertising projects and magazine pictorials. 'Bern is rea
lly a professional. And we understand each other completely. I just tell him
sometimes I want yun ganito, ganyan and then viola! 'Yung ginawa nya ang
gusto ko talagang makeup."
Bern, in turn, finds Heart's look very classic. "Para siyang si Catherine
Zeta-Jones. Actually that what I told her nung una kaming nagkatrabaho."
And he likes the fact that Heart knows what she wants with her makeup but
still trusts him totally. "Alam niyang do ko pababayaan ang beauty niya!,"
Bern adds with a laugh.
He also describes Heart as very down-to-earth and professional. "I find her
very mature and masipag. Kaya natutuwa ako sa batang 'yan. Minsan kahit may
sakit ako, work ako pa rin sa kanya. Kasi siya, iniisip na rin nya rin na
kailangan niyang magpakita sa work dahil kaming staff papasok. Kung 'di sya
magkakarating, sayang lang ang pagod ng ibang tao. She doesn't only think of
herself but others as well."
The two share secrets about makeup, fashion and, ofcourse, each other's
lovelife. Their favorite pasttime during MYX tapings? Striking poses in
front of the dressing room mirror. "We both just love doing pouty lips."
Heart laughs. They'd do any pose for a laugh to pass the time during the
grueling hours of taping. "Masaya kasama 'yang si Heart. Walang boring na
araw sa kanya."
Heart's flair for the arts also doesn't end in the studio. It has extended
into Bern's home. "One time dumaan siya sa bahay and then nagulat na lang
ako biglang she wanted to rearrange my things. Like ko naman yung ideas nya
so ayun di ko na binago yung ayos nang kwarto ko. Kaya everytime nandun ako,
naalala ko si Heart."
In the pictorial for Heart's first album under Star Records, the star
describes the event with a twinkle in her eye. "It was so much fun. We
wanted the lok to be very kikay, very feminine. And it showed in the photos!
As in, we wanted it to look like I was doing a shoot for a magazine. And it
did look that way."
Says Bern:"Para isa syang fashion shoot sa magazine. Masaya. Lumabas ang
tunay na Heart. Parang naisip namin na ganito 'yung look tapos yung damit, 'yung
situation, lahat. Tapos nagkatotoo siya."
Heart has only good words about her make-up artist: "Si Bern very masayahing
tao 'yan. You'd never find him grumpy or bad trip. He knows how to make you
feel happy pag down ka. And alam n'ya kung anong bagay saakin."
Bern, too, can't thank God enough for helping him find a wonderful friend in
Heart. "Nagkahulihan kami ng puso. It's rare na makahanap la ng isang tao na
palagay agad ang loob mo." |
