SHONA`s Gallery: The life of a shoe the life cycle and environment of a shoe commentary by Christopher Gillespie |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Contrary to common knowledge (or ignorance i should say) Shoes are not in fact made in factories in taiwan (the place even sounds imaginary!), they are in fact carnivorous insects...yes, a shock im sure! Given this and the fact Shona is a vetinary science student, what better act than to combine her love of the random picture with her studies....I have added notes to the pictures so as to portray the whole wonder of the life cycle of a shoe.
LARVAL STAGE: the beginning of development
In the wild (see picture below) the larval shoe requires great toughness to survive the ordeal of birth and its natural predators. Hence nature has developed an amazing straetgy to help it! The Larvae is METAL! more than this, it has wings and can FLY! This is perhaps the greatest acomlishment that nature has atained, even now scientists are searching for reasons for this amazing aspect of early shoe develoment. NOTE: the early larvae sho shows mimicry of a dragonfly, it is unknown why this occurs. |

PUPAE STAGE: The caccoon

The next stage of development involves a long period in a caccon type state on top of large trees. As we can see from the picture, the cacoon looks almost like a dinsosaur with wings. It lies deep in the vegetation, and during night it gows flourescent green. It is believed that this is a form of communication between caccoons and is unique amongst the animal kingdom.
THE ADULT STAGE: the final product.

The mistaken belief in taiwanese production of shoes is that of there leathery hide and unnatural colours. However, in there natural environment (that is, the fridge, see below) these colours have a special funchion. They are highly resistant to cooling due t the chemicals in the leather, thus the strange colours exibited by the shoe in the final stage act in the same way feathers and fur do in birds and animals.

Environment. The larvae and the pupae both are to be found amongst high up vegation. The density of the environment can be clearly seen in the picture. Predators include chickens, spam and lettuce leaves. The main food source of the early shoe is flying sausage bats. |

Environment of the adult: The adult shoe is most frequently found floating in the fridge especially around pickles and butter. The main food source for the shoe is generally accepted by scientists to be Ham, but some research has pointed towards a mineral based diet where by it can drink coke mixed with JD. Although in nearly all conditions they have n predators, snakes have been known to eat them. They herd in pairs and there mating call resembles the noise of a small fog horn. |
