NOTE: Not a Menn/Kenry fanatic...I'm just using examples

I've been reading up on Kenry and Menn from last year's soapcaps, and old board archives, and it got me really really sad.  Soaps these days really lack triumphant, uplifting couples...and I don't mean couples where they have had to destroy the entire town/character roster to be a couple. 

Kenry started out as a ploy for Katie to get Mike back and it turned out to be something more.  Longtime friends could turn into lovers.  It was the "unexpected" appeal and rather a rootable one since Trent Dawson finally got a contract he so richly deserved.  Even Katie said, wow I just decided to loosen all my inhibitions in bed knowing I had someone I trusted and been friends forever...I recall 80% in a poll were Pro Kenry...something I had seldom seen in SOD.  It was unexpected, sweet, and who would it destroy?  Mike?  Mike was with Jenn and their whole story had cute/witty appeal with Mike modelling for Jenn's campaign that went from strictly business to something more.  Mike was brokenhearted over Katie and Jenn over Jordan and it was ideal that two broken hearts would bond.  Menn had been leading SOD's top couple poll EVEN after six months after they broke up!  They made a lasting impression even that far.  Mike even forgave Jenn for sleepin with Craig and was noble enough for marry her and be the daddy to johnny.  How many women would swoon over that?   It was uplifting, triumphant, it gave Mark Collier meaty scenes that he seldom ever got as official mimbo of Oakdale.  It could've been the reward/payoff if Menn found out Mike was actually the dad!  It would've made up for the hell he had mulling if he was daddy to Carly's baby. 

soooo....these two "deemed as consolation initially" couples who became so much more were destroyed....to do Matie and backburn Henry.  And worst of all, replacing Mike with Dusty.  For the reason of putting Grayson in frontburner.  (and why if they were bringing Meg in, and could've done Meg/Paul/Dusty/Emily triangle last year?) I don't have a prob with Matie these days...in fact, I'm really feellin bad for the Matie folk.  Because, really, they had the masses and campaigned and the punishment?  half-azzed story of BJ the stalker then lazy-azzed story that didn't move for two months with baby-making attempts.  I 'm just in hindsight thinking what great stories could've come with the inital plans of those two couples (that had evident backing by fans according to stats).  And who's responsible for this?  Not that fanbase perse, but JEAN PASSANANTE!

Nobody in Menn/Kenry committed a crime and said, "we had to do it cuz ends justified the means," and then be extolled as a destiny rootable couple.  Both Menn/Kenry coupledoms acknowledged past couples each partner was in, so everyone knew where they were coming from.  They weren't ignored like an elephant in the room. 

I'm sorry to say...what a mess.
