The identity of the John's first wife is not known, but she is believed to be Experience Pratt, dau. of Samuel and Hannah (Rogers) Pratt, of Weymouth, Mass. She died soon after her fourth child, John, Jr., was born. He was left to be raised by his aunt and uncle, John and Hannah (Pratt) Whitman of Bridgewater.
John moved from Bridgewater to Hingham before his second marriage. He was Constable in 1712 and was one of the original members of the second church, formed in 1721.
